Ossett Civic Society

Announcement 27th May 2021

It is with regret that we announce the resignations of the following Officers.

  • Phil Waud - Chair

  • Steve Wilson - Vice Chair

  • Rachel Driver - Secretary

  • Anne-Marie Fawcett - Media Officer

  • Simon Rogers - Planning Officer

  • Marise Myers - Committee Member

  • Nev Ashby - Committee Member

These resignations are all tended for the same reason. Sadly, malign influences are proving impossible to work against.

Some intend to remain members of Ossett Civic Society as our subscriptions continue until February 2022, but our positions as Officers and Committee members are untenable.

Although we have all thoroughly enjoyed our achievements, we are finding it increasingly hard to progress further in these stressful circumstances.

Recent events have proven conclusively, that certain people are determined to halt progress for us in Ossett Civic Society and are actively working with another person (not a member) to make things deliberately difficult for us. This individual is determined to denounce us at every opportunity.

Although we have spent several months fighting these malign influences, it has taken its toll on the mental health of the majority of our team. For that reason alone, we need to remove ourselves from this damaging situation.

We would hope that as a team we can continue with our good work, but sadly that has become obvious that it can’t be under the Ossett Civic Society banner. At such time when we have further information we will let you all know.

We feel dreadfully sorry to let you all down and our decision was not taken lightly. We have spent many hours trying to find a way around this but unfortunately cannot find a suitable alternative.

We will continue with the projects we were assigned, which include;

  • The Heritage Trail book - which will be financed privately

  • The Spitfire fundraising plaque - which will be financed privately

  • The Remembrance Day project - which will be financed privately

The War Memorial chains are now installed - project complete.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the other local Civic Societies who have offered much support to us. We would particularly like to thank Kevin Trickett, who has been a huge ambassador for Ossett Civic Society and offered us much advice.

We wish all the very best for the future of Ossett Civic Society and look forward to seeing further developments for the good of Ossett.
